First off, today is National Wear Red Day to support heart disease in women. What's one of the best things you can do for your heart? Exercise! I do a daily challenge on my FB page and today's challenge is to respect your heart today by getting it pumping. What will you do? I'm rockin' the kettlebells at home.
Although I miss the motivation of the gym, my schedule makes it difficult to get there so I've spent some time and money making my home gym more comfy in my (unfinished) basement. Recently we moved one of our flat screen TV's and rearranged the "furniture" and I'm so happy with the results. The decor (mostly motivational sayings) is not finished, but I thought I'd share my workout space. Maybe it will give you some ideas for your home gym, and for those of you with more advanced home gyms, I'd love to hear any advice too!
Flat screen TV mounted so I can do my DVD's easier. I used to have a big bulky older TV on a desk. Mirror to see form, bar mounted for
boxing gloves and wraps, my size 4 clothing I want to get back into and bikini's for summer!
Moved my elliptical, treadmill and bike by the window so I have more light. Like this so much better than where I had it before.
In this corner I have my boxing stand, balls, steps and yoga mat. Not in the picture is my wall of health and fitness magazines.
Chairs for some seated weight training and also for use with Physique 57 workouts instead of the bar.
The main carpet is a nice thick rug I inherited and I placed exercise mats underneath to provide some cushioning when doing plyometrics and floor work.
Top shelf : exercise bands, floor discs, gloves and wrist weights.
Second shelf: My fitness DVD collection in one nice neat place!
Third shelf: exercise balls for core work and Physique 57 workouts, light dumbells, bottom shelf medicine ball, yoga block and strap, jump ropes. Barbell with adjustable weights and then my heavier dumbells 10-20 pounds.
On this stand I usually have my music, kleenex, my water and my adjustable dumbells.
Below that are my Kettlebells
It's not pretty, but it works great for my needs. Would love to hear if you have any cheap suggestions for covering the ugly walls. I don't want to buy a ton of fabric but I don't know what else would work.
Have a fabulous heart healthy day!
Sandrelle, you're so awesome! It looks great! Keep up your motivation and hopefully some of that will seep over my way!

Thanks Leslie, miss working with you!
DeleteHow about some motivating POSTERS with quotes and pics to cover your walls?
ReplyDeleteWOW.. your home gym looks EPIC girl!! Kinda jealous. Why would you even want to go to a prof gym with that set up? Way to go!!!
~Margene
Margene, I just printed off a bunch of motivational stuff and I'm excited to put it up on the walls. Can't wait to show you. Thanks for the props!
DeleteJanuary was awful. Yay for fresh starts. Love your gym; I envy your setup... I need to start collecting. Can I make a request? I really want to try cycling this year and I'd love to hear how you started out, bought your bike, training resources etc. Happy Feb!!
ReplyDeletedh, yes, I will work on a cycle post for you :) Hope your Feb is going great!
DeleteI'd put some mirrors up on your wall so that you could watch your exercise form--and admire yourself. :D
ReplyDelete:-) Marion
Marion, I do have the one, but I think putting up more is a great idea. Thanks!
DeleteThanks for some hope for a normal life. I had a total thyroidectomy Feb 12 and you really inspire me. I love working out and being healthy and I'm scared to death this will change who I am... Thanks again as I am having a hard time and feel lucky to have come across this blog.
ReplyDeleteJodie, I'm so glad that I've posted something that gives you hope. It might take a while (or not) to get your meds adjusted but just keep at it and you will be ok my friend. Message me if you have questions or need support!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! I was on a dose that was a little to high and felt as if I was losing it! Doctor just lowered it a little and already feel better. A workout that I really love is Ballet Beautiful. Check it out if you get a chance. Lots of streaming videos that incorporate cardio and pilates and dance. It's pretty addicting Thanks again for the inspiration. Do you find it more difficult to maintain weight now?
DeleteThanks so much! Do you find it more difficult to maintain weight without your thyroid? I hope you don't mind me asking. Just freaking out about possible weight gain even when doing everything right.....
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Sandrelle. I also work out in my basement. I have an elliptical, weights, kettle bells, medicine balls, big exercise ball, yoga mat, a tv mounted on the wall and lots of exercise DVDs. I am really into Ballet Beautiful right now. It is a great mixture of pilates and cardio-with dance incorporated into it. I find it addictive. Do you find it is more difficult to maintain your weight after the thyroidectomy? I am really stressing over this! Thanks in advance.
